Exactly. Air Canada and WestJet have the deep pockets (and fare increases) to manage through difficult times, but some of the others do not. For Porter Airlines, their niche at Toronto City Centre Airport is an advantage over Pearson, but will the customers be willing to pay?

Personally, I would prefer a EWR to YTZ trip than LGA to YYZ. I hope that they can stay in business.

Matt, I do agree. Money talks as the saying goes. However, as far as I know, newer airlines tend to have little capital to play with during the start up years. AC and WJ are gearing up for fare increases with little risk but what will the new guys do? Where are they going to recover the cost? We all know the competition in the charter market is fierce. Time will tell.

Robert, that is a good question. If an airline is well capitalized, it could weather the current fuel crisis, but if there are labor or other issues, then a Canadian airline could be on that list.

I wonder how much money Porter Airlines has? They're new but they seem to have carved out a nice niche.

Thank you for the report. It is nice to be able to read a synopsis of the months events. I'm hoping the closures will not work its way North. However, It does look inevitable. who will be the first Canadian Airline to go? That is the question!
